Healing Through Memory: Honouring Your Baby's Legacy
We, at NILMDTS Ireland are honoured and privileged to get to play some small part in helping you to create memories at this incredibly difficult time. We understand the healing that comes from this, and we wanted to share some ideas based on the feedback of other parents on how they were able to make meaningful memories.
Photography is a key way to preserve the memory of your precious baby. If you have a NILMDTS Ireland session we always strive to capture the perfect details that make your baby uniquely them. We hope that these photos will become part of your treasure chest of memories of your baby. We would also encourage you to take photographs yourself. Parents also tell us that they are very glad to have taken some video with their baby, perhaps of reading to them or singing them a lullaby.
Feileacain are often able to take moulds of your baby’s feet and hands. The tactile physical nature of these can be really special to have.
It can be very special to read a special book to them or to play a special song.
There are so many beautiful books, but here are some we love.
You may feel in the future that you long to reconnect with this time with your baby. Think about all of the sensory ways to be able to connect with this feeling of them in your loving arms.
You might like to consider a particular scented candle or oil, (choose one that is relatively easy to find again rather than anything limited edition). You might consider a particular soft blanket or teddy bear that can bring you tactile memories.
All of these threads will weave together into their story, they will help you feel connected with your baby in the future.
Please do not feel any pressure to do all or even any of them. They are simply some ideas that might guide you in this incredibly difficult time. The most important thing to do is whatever feels right for you. Only you will know the right way to honour your baby and to spend whatever time you may have with them.
Please know that we at NILMDTS Ireland have you in our hearts at this awful time. We are sending you an ocean of care and support.
